Google BigDaddy Update winding down slowly..

The Google Bigdaddy update is not only an algorithm update. It seems to be that Googles infrastructure is changing rapidly to be able to provide fast, reliable and objective search results in a few tenths of a second. This rapid development is necessairy if Google wants to keep its position as the fastes growing, biggest and most objective search engine world wide! I will mention some details about the bigdaddy update down here. Off course.. it is just speculation.. i dont know everything for sure, i just mention the things i found out while trying the new datacenters and while reading a few weblogs on the internet. One of the weblogs i read very frequently is http://www.mattcutts.com/blog. Matt Cutts is a Senior Google engineer presenting all kinds of SEO / Website / Personal nonsense ;) related stuff on his website.

How to find out if you are hitting a Bigdaddy datacenter?

As Matt mentions on his website, you can do a search for [sf giants]. If the query [sf giants] returns giants.mlb.com, the odds are pretty good that you’re hitting a Google Bigdaddy datacenter. Bigdaddy seems to be up at 216.239.51.104, 66.249.93.104, 66.249.92.99 and 64.233.179.104. Notice; some of the datacenters may be taken out of rotation for testing / update purposes. It's best to test if you are hitting a bigdaddy datacenter!

What about the Bigdaddy update?

Well, the Bigdaddy update involves several changes. The changes are not only changes on an algorithmycal level but also infrastructural. Some people seem to have figured out that Bigdaddy centers appear to be aproximately twice as fast as regular centers.

It also seems that a lot of the old 301 redirects which were going to the same site are left out. These were listed in Google with no descriptions and I always wondered why they were still there. One of my own pages (no, not sites) is left out as well (partially).

The 66.249.92.99 IP also returns the new Bigdaddy results as far as i can see. The only thing that bothers me is that it seems to be that i get more localized results from a bigdaddy center than a regular center… I’m am from the netherlands and no matter what sort of queries i use, i always get lots of *.nl results on the SERPs..

I will try to keep this article up to date concerning the Bigdaddy Update. Bigdaddy Winding down.. Alex logging off.

New Google Bigdaddy datacenter appear frequently..

New Bigdaddy datacenters appear very frequently. They seem to appear online every 10 days or so. Sometimes a bigdaddy datacenter gets taken out of roulation for tweaking and finetuning. In this period the datacenter can be unavailable for the public for a few hours. The bigdaddy center wil come back online eventually.

More and more Bigdaddy datacenters...

As i still keep wandering the google web, i keep on bumping into the new google datacenters with the bigdaddy update applied and to old google datacenters containing old indexes, infrastructures and algorithms.

Some old google datacenters are:

Todo, list of old datacenters

Some of the bigdaddy google datacenters are:

Todo list of new bigdaddy centers.

Why is this page not higher ranked than another page in my website wich only contains a link to this page...

On this page i am talking a lot about the update wich is taking place as we speak. Another page within my website is ranked higher within the SERPs while that page doen't even mention the bigdaddy update... This pisses me off... trying to find a logical explanation for this. I think it has to do with the time a page exists and the last crawl date.. If you can help me please mail me @ alex@bfac.nl

Update (monday 20-02-2006) From makati: Unfortunately this page is not found on google datacenter: 66.249.89.99 Every other page within this website IS found over there..
